How do I obtain my property?
Call the property/evidence unit at (732) 329-4000 x7447. All property/ evidence is kept in a vault until your case is concluded and a disposition can be obtained.

Where do I come to retrieve my property?
Call for an appointment between 8:00 A.M.- 3:00 P.M. Come to the police department entrance of the South Brunswick Municipal Building and ask for the property clerk. After hours appointments can be made.

How can I obtain my weapon back?
It will depend on why the weapon has been placed in the property/evidence vault. If the weapon was seized due to domestic violence the weapon(s) are sent to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, Evidence Unit and you will have to contact them directly at (732) 745-3347. If the weapon was brought in for safekeeping you must provide the proper paperwork, i.e. firearms I.D. card of the town you live in, to this unit.

I found a bicycle, may I claim it?
Yes, after the officer brings the bike to police headquarters it is placed in a vault.
After six months, if no other person claims the bike you will receive a letter or phone call from this unit.

I found money, can I claim it?
Found money is placed in a township trust fund. It can be claimed after six months. It will take approximately three months for the paperwork to go through. A check will be mailed to you.

How do I get back my seized vehicle?
The arresting officer makes the decision if an application for forfeiture will take place. If he decides to place the application for forfeiture the vehicle will be held in our impound lot on site. If he decides not to apply for the application of forfeiture, it will be towed to a local garage and you then can pick it up at that garage.

If my property is seized and an application for forfeiture placed, how can I get my property back?
All paperwork and money are sent up to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, Forfeiture Unit. You may contact that unit for information on the process at (732) 745-4328.

When and where is the township auction?
The township usually holds an auction in the fall and or the spring. The Public Works Department and/or the South Brunswick Police Department will place an ad in the newspaper several weeks prior to the auction. The auction usually takes place at the South Brunswick Municipal Complex. When not held at this location the ad will state the alternate location.
