How do I obtain a copy of a motor vehicle accident report?
To obtain a copy of a motor vehicle crash report, wait three to five business days and then call the Records Bureau and check to make sure the report is completed and available. If the report is releasable, you may either request a copy by mail or come to police headquarters during regular business hours, 8:30 A.M. until 4:30 P.M. To request a copy by mail, send a check for $5 written out to "Township of South Brunswick"; enclose a note with your name, the case number (if available) and the location and date of the event. Also include a self addressed, stamped envelope.

Motor vehicle crash reports are now available online, as well. To obtain a motor vehicle crash report online, please click here.

If you come into headquarters to pick up a copy of an investigative report or computer generated report, you must complete an O.P .R.A. form. Reports picked up at headquarters are $.75 a page for the first ten pages and $.50 a page for the next ten pages and $ .25 for all additional pages.

May I have my fingerprints taken at police headquarters?
No, the South Brunswick Police Department no longer fingerprints for any non-criminal purposes.
All fingerprinting is now done at a New Jersey State contracted facility called Sagem Morpho. They can be reached at (877)503-5981 or at www.bioapplicant.com/nj for further information.

I wish to issue a motor vehicle summons to someone, what is the procedure?
There is a 30-day statute of limitation from the date of the incident for issuing a summons. The station officer on duty will assist in filling out the ticket and a probable cause form. After the summons has been issued, you will be advised by the court of any future appearance date. You will then be required to appear in court and testify regarding the violation you observed.

How do I obtain a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO)?
There are several ways that this can be done. In an emergency situation, when police are called to the residence, the officers on the scene can help you obtain a TRO. A TRO can also be obtained through the Middlesex County Court in New Brunswick between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm. After hours, weekends, and holidays TROs can be obtained through the station officers at the South Brunswick Police Department.

My vehicle was impounded, how do I get it from the towing company?
In most cases the vehicles are released by the officers while on the scene. All that is required is to take the release form to the towing company. Once the bill has been paid, the car will be released to you. If you were not given a release form, you will need to come in to the South Brunswick Police Department and meet with the station officer. You will need to provide proof of identification to have the vehicle released to you.
